Home to a number of picturesque towns and villages including the historic city of Lancaster and seaside resort of Morecambe as well as beautiful rural areas such as the Arnside and Silverdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and the Forest of Bowland, North Lancashire it’s the perfect place for a short family break in the UK.
Our collection of holiday cottages in Silverdale provide the perfect base to explore this beautiful and diverse part of the country, within easy reach of rural countryside, bustling towns and cities and stunning coastline.
Things to See and Do
Lovers of the great outdoors will be right at home in the rugged countryside of North Lancashire, made up of rolling valleys, dry-stone walls and small mill towns.
Many visit the area to take a walk or cycle through the beautiful landscapes, with many trails available in the Forest of Bowland area (where you’ll also find the Bowland Wild Boar Park!), as well as the many routes near our cottages around Arnside and Silverdale.
You can also spot lots of different varieties of wildlife in the various nature reserves around the area, such as RSPB Leighton Moss.
If you’d rather take things a bit slower, there’s plenty to see and do in the various towns in the area, with lots of museums and historic attractions.
For example, in Lancaster, the city is overlooked by the medieval Lancaster Castle, where you can tour the prison cells and courtrooms and take a trip one of the towers for great views over the River Lune.
As well as being home to lots of great shops and restaurants too, you should take a walk through Williamson Park, known for its butterfly house and the impressive Ashton Memorial.
The region also boasts an impressive coastline, especially around Morecambe Bay and the villages of Arnside and Silverdale near our holiday cottages.
And while you’re in the area, be sure to sample some of the local culinary delights, whether it be Lancashire cheese, hotpot, or rag pudding.
Why Choose a Holiday Cottage?
While you could choose to find a local hotel for your visit to North Lancashire, there are a few reasons why we believe renting a holiday cottage provides a much better experience.
Firstly (and perhaps most importantly!), it can work out a lot more affordable than staying in a hotel.
Aside from the actual cost of the accommodation, you have to bear in mind that being able to cater for yourself and prepare your own meals also reduces a lot of the cost.
However, the benefit isn’t just financial, and self-catering also gives you a much greater level of freedom, allowing you to come and go as you please and completely tailor your break to your own needs and requirements.
Staying at your own cottage also helps to really make you feel at home while you’re here, with a much bigger space to call your own and no other guests to share it with.
Here at Holgates, we have four holiday cottages in and around the Silverdale area, in the far north of the county, in the Arnside and Silverdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
Each offers the perfect base for a break in the North Lancashire area and is a beautifully decorated space to relax in between days out in the local area.
Here’s a closer look at each of the cottages we have available, each of which can be hired for a short break or week-long stay and come with access to the leisure facilities at our Silverdale Holiday Park.
Located next to the Royal Silverdale pub in the heart of the village, the Knott is also our largest cottage and sleeps up to six people, across three bedrooms.
It also has a large open-plan kitchen and living area complete with a log burning stove and outdoor furniture to enjoy the sunset.
Just next door to the Knott, the Pepper Pot is slightly smaller (sleeps four people) and features one master bedroom and one twin room, making it ideal for smaller families.
This detached property is located just on the outskirts of Silverdale Village and has been designed with families in mind, featuring wildlife drawings by local artists and a woodland theme.
It also includes all of the usual amenities, with fully equipped kitchen and space for up to six people.
The latest addition to our collection, Hollins Cottage (opening May 2019) is situated on a working farm, just outside out Silverdale Holiday park, providing a break with a real difference!
As well as having great views over Morecambe Bay, you may also see the odd cow, hen or goat from your window as the cottage overlooks the farm’s barns too!
