Holiday Cottages near the Lake District
The Lake District is one of the most beautiful and most popular parts of the UK, nestled in the far North West of England and home to dramatic fells and deep glacial lakes.
As well as those seeking amazing scenery, it also attracts walkers, cyclists and watersports enthusiasts, all keen to make the most of these unique landscapes.
If you’re looking to stay just outside the boundaries of the National Park itself, but still within a short drive’s distance of all of the sights and attractions, our collection of holiday cottages near the Lake District could be the perfect solution.
Just to the south of the Lakes in the Arnside and Silverdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the Holgates Cottage Collection sits on the Lancashire / Cumbria border and is just a twenty minute drive from the southern tip of the National Park, roughly forty minutes away from Bowness and an hour from Keswick.
Things to See and Do
As the largest of England’s National Parks, and stretching from the Yorkshire Dales to the shores of West Cumbria, there are plenty of places to go and things to do in the Lake District.
Some of the most popular destinations include the tourist towns of Bowness-on-Windermere, Ambleside, Coniston, Grasmere and Keswick.
There are 16 bodies of water that give the area its name (although one is technically naked a ‘lake’!), the largest and most popular of which is Windermere, although Coniston, Buttermere, Rydal and Wast Water are among the others which attract large numbers of visitors.
Those in search of a hike will want to challenge England’s highest mountain, Scafell Pike, as well as other popular mountains such as Skiddaw and Helvellyn, although there are also plenty of easier trails for less experienced walkers too.
